The Grill at the Dorchester offer ‘world-class service’
HALAL STATUS Cater for HalalI spontaneously booked The Grill at the Dorchester for dinner one evening prior to lockdown and Covid changing our lives. I booked a table for four, taking along my wife and some of her family.
I chose The Grill on a whim whilst looking for a Halal place to eat with a little ambience and The Dorchester was far from my thoughts. However, I came across it and it had to be done.
My wife and I are avid luxury travellers and hence we know what we want when we see it. The Dorchester can fully verify their Halal status and go to great lengths to maintain this status.
I booked the table for 20:15 and we arrived at 20:00. The doormen greeted us very warmly and our group of four patiently waited at the desk just outside The Grill.
Once there, I was pleased to see some very decent crackers which we pulled. It was then that we were introduced to our host Edward “John” Smith. This man exuded the essence of customer service.
Not at all snotty, he was very knowledgeable about everything to do with The Grill; John held conversations with us at various intervals and at the end of it all we had become quite attached to him. A great asset to the restaurant as we plan to have Sunday lunch soon and I’ll make sure John is on shift. The staff make up the evening as much as the food does!
At the point of ordering drinks, my sister-in-law did have difficulty in explaining to the lady who was taking the order that she wanted an Appetizer. The lady didn’t not know what this was, so I tried saying fizzy apple juice; but we were still not confident that we had been understood and so we changed this to a simple coke. The issue was the level of English here and should be looked at – this did NOT however take away from our experience at all.
Coming to the food order which John very carefully dealt with, for starters we had smoked salmon, crab on toast, duck foie grass and lemon sole goujenettes. With John explaining how lamb done two ways was served, we also ordered beef tournedos, venison, and Wagyu beef for myself.
The food was absolutely tremendous. I would say that my Wagyu beef was a tad over done than my medium rare order; however, not even worth telling anyone about as it was so tasty. All credit to the chef.
The ambience in the restaurant was not over the top. It was relaxing, sublime and fun at the same time. The staff especially John and the restaurant manager really do make this place a success and you can see their passion for The Grill!
When you go to a hotel such as The Dorchester you expect quality, world-class service, indulgence and of course the price. We got all four.
