Halal food spots on Tooting High Street in South London
There are a lot of Halal restaurants and eateries located in South London’s Tooting (SW17) that cater for its sizeable Muslim community.
With Muslims making up around 20% of the population, according to a 2011 census, we decided to pay the area a visit and get a low down of what’s on offer.
Having compiled a comprehensive list of places to eat on Upper Tooting Road, here’s one for Tooting High Street that includes its two iconic markets.
The first is Tooting Market, which goes back over 80 years and was voted ‘Best Small Indoor Market’ in the UK at the Great British Market Awards 2017′, while the second is one of South London’s oldest, Broadway Market, that’s been open since 1936.
As for those looking to fulfil their religious duties, or to just get away from the hustle and bustle, then Tooting Islamic Centre is situated in the heart of things.
LAHORE KARAHI
Lahore Karahi is the first point of contact when you reach Tooting High Street. It’s a local Pakistani takeaway and restaurant which may not look like much but was once voted London’s top 5 curry houses by The Guardian and included in the London Evening Standard’s top 10 curry houses. They even have their own mobile app for easy ordering.
PEPIS
Pepi’s is a fully Halal Guyanan vendor that serves breakfast, with lamb, chicken and goat on the menu. They also offer catering services.
