All meat at West African Akoko in Fitzrovia will be Halal
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal food menu • Alcohol servedWith Masterchef finalist William Chilila at the helm, Akoko will be introducing West African cuisine with a fine dining approach when it launches in London Fitzrovia next month.
Located on Berners Street and scheduled to officially open on 8th October, with a soft launch from 25th September to 7th October, the menu will combine local ingredients with authentic spices.
More importantly, its founder, British Nigerian Aji Akokomi, has informed with FtLion that all their meat will be Halal: “I have discussed Halal with our Head Chef William and his team. I can confirm that we will now cater for Halal.”
Taking inspiration from family recipes and Aji’s travels across West Africa, Akoko will be paying homage to the country’s culinary heritage by using recipes passed down through generations to show off the richness, vibrancy and diversity of the Saharan region.
Combining “high quality produce from African and British suppliers, with an emphasis on seasonality and sustainability”, the menu will include West African classics such as Smoked goat served with jollof rice, Pounded Yam with native lobster egusi, Beef suya, and Quail yassa.
There will also be desserts available such as the Goat milk ice cream with uda burnt cream and caramelised Ghanaian cocoa butter.
