Franchisors of Halal Subway and Wok & Go open Yolé in Chinatown
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal (marshmellow to be replaced by Halal version soon)A medium cup of Yolé is equivalent to a mango, a small cup works out at about a banana. Our servings start at 55 calories…
The master franchisors behind Halal noodle bar Wok & Go and a number of Subways branches opened their fourth Yolé branch over the weekend.
Long-time friends Milad Nawaz and Salman Qureshi launched the healthy ice cream brand in London’s Chinatown on Saturday.
Yolé is renowned for being the first brand in the world to offer an entire range of ice cream and frozen yogurt without adding a gram of sugar.
While everything else is Halal, FtLion has been informed regarding the marshmellow: “Our ice cream is only made from cows milk; and everything (apart from the marshmallows) is Halal and there is nothing that contains alcohol. However, we are in the process of changing our marshmallows for it to be Halal soon.”
They landed in the UK in July at Lakeside Shopping Centre Mall, venues were then opened in Canary Wharf and Covent Garden all within a few short weeks.
Available in soft serve or tubs, Yolé’s flavours include matcha and chocolate-hazelnut, with the menu also offering freshly-made milkshakes, boba, and ice cream bars, with plenty of toppings for customisation.
The owners said: “Ice cream can be healthy and delicious, and the incredible following we already have across the globe is testament to this.
“Chinatown London is such a buzzing location, and it makes a lot of sense for us to be here, given the popularity of Yolé in Southeast Asia. We cannot wait to open and showcase what we’re all about.”
Yolé servings start at 55 calories & 60% less calories than others
With a strong presence in countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Taiwan, Yolé’s global HQ is in Singapore while its European head office is in Spain where its special recipes are formulated.
The revolutionary food-tech ensures 60% fewer calories, fat and sugar than the most recognized brands of ice cream and frozen yogurt, and it’s this healthy angle that the franchise owners were looking for for their next project.
“We’d been looking at bubble tea, which is a big trend, but that’s full of sugar – for me, I want to enjoy dessert and not worry about the calories,” Milad said before adding: “A medium cup of Yolé is equivalent to a mango, a small cup works out at about a banana.
“Our servings start at 55 calories and then you add the fruit so you have something that has protein and fibre in it and it’s gluten free.”
The duo’s first franchising experience in 2016 involved opening a Subway branch in Leyton, growing 11 outlets, then selling two and maintaining nine.
Then in 2019, they were able to secure the rights to the whole of greater London as master franchisors for Wok & Go.
With master franchisor rights also acquired for Yolé, Milad and Salman plan to open five stores initially, with a branch in Westfield White City, before “roll[ing] it out across the rest of the UK” including Westfield Stratford City.
