Shrimoyee Opens Second Calcutta Street in Brixton

Although it opened last month, Calcutta Street’s Brixton branch is certainly worth a mention given it’s fully Halal.

After her success in Fitzrovia, Shrimoyee Chakraborty’s second restaurant is now serving home-style Bengali mains and street food in way that evokes the spirit of ‘the street that never sleeps’ – Park Street in Calcutta.

Unlike the first restaurant though, Brixton’s is revolving around dishes that tend towards the small and affordable.

New additions to the menu include a Lamb Biryani and Chicken Chaap, which is slow-cooked in a creamy poppy seed and cashew nut sauce, whilst there’s also dishes like Corriander and Poppy Seed Fritters, Phuchka, and a Prawn Malai Curry that’s available as either half or full plates.

The place is brightly coloured and adorned with decorative pieces, such as, neon signs, peacock feathers, palm trees, murals, and Bollywood film posters making this a fun place to dine in.

While Calcutta Street offers some unique Calcutta-inspired drinks called shorbots – tall beverages that revolve around exciting flavours like apple, ginger, mint, and chilli alongside star anise, plum and clove – the place does have a late license that runs until 1am.
