Halal at Feast Canteen ‘food hall’ in Hammersmith

It appears as though an emerging food trend will take off this year, particularly in London, with the introduction of what are known as ‘food halls’.

Feast Canteen in Hammersmith, west London, is only a taster of what’s to come, with a report by property advisers Cushman & Wakefield suggesting at least 16 new food halls are planned for the capital alone.

Feast Canteen Hammersmith Kings Mall Salvation in NoodlesThis particular one in Kings Mall, which opens on Wednesday the 14th Feb, claims to have “reinvented the ‘canteen’ concept” by introducing “high-end cuisine” under one roof.

But while the hall has space for 350 visitors, kiosk space appears limited, with only four restaurant accommodated at any one time.

Feast Canteen has, however, come up with a novel way of addressing the problem of variety with a rotary system that will periodically introduce four new restaurants thereby offering visitors various cuisines all in one convenient space.

More importantly, of the first four kiosks to kick things off, there’s one, a popular Vietnamese restaurant, that actually caters for Halal.

With the other three being Patty and Bun, Born and Raised, and Breddos Tacos, FtL has been informed by Salvation in Noodles that not only does it serve Halal chicken and lamb, but that these are prepared and cooked entirely separately from any pork on the menu.

With two locations in Dalston and Finsbury Park, and founded in 2014, owner Colin Tu has reportedly said that he’s “truly excited at the prospect of serving ‘traditional, home-style Vietnamese food in a modern way’, something he felt was missing in London despite there being many good, established Vietnamese restaurants”.

With a dearth of Vietnamese restaurants that offer Halal, this is a rarity; and with Pho and Noodles on the menu, Feast Canteen is definitely worth a visit.

If you can’t make it though, worry not. Home delivery is available through Deliveroo‘s website seven days a week from 12pm – 11pm.

What’s more, from 19 Feb, Feast Canteen will be running a competition where one lucky winner will be chosen each week to ‘Eat For Free’ for a whole week.
