Amigos Acton Shepherds Bush burger gourmet boss

Amigo’s Peri Peri – Acton, Shepherd’s Bush

Acton Branch

A 20oz burger!!! We came. We saw. We devoured.

After hearing of some raving reviews, Eid 2015 was the day our sordid experience of Fat Burger was finally exorcised, because this is what you call a fat burger. There’s enough red meat at this joint to start up a successful cattle ranch in Argentina. Jam packed full of sauces and flavour.

The menu is simple enough: you come for the flame grilled 100% beef burger. And if you make that the 20oz burger, then be prepared for mobility problems thereafter.

With chips and a drink thrown in for a tenner – this place is kicking (or should that be licking?) it.

THE EL GUAPO – American cheese, grilled pineapple, jalapenos, tomato and red onion

Amigos, El-Guapo Burger – Pineapple & Jalapeño

The least favourite of the three was the El-Guapo which, though still impressive, would nevertheless out do most competitors out there. In our opinion, this needed more sauce.

Adding something like sticky BBQ sauce might do the trick. Actually, that goes in the diary: “Add BBQ sauce next time.”

THE JACOB – Soft cream cheese topped with sweet chilli sauce

The Jacob was a rung above the El-Guapo with its soft cream cheese.

When you order a 20oz beef burger, you want lashings of sauce, or something similar, to keep you going till the end.

THE TEXAN – Sweet corn relish, sticky BBQ sauce

The Texan was equally as good as, if not better than, the Jacob.

Succulent, tasty meat (though not quite as good as Handmade Burger Co.), and the BBQ sauce made it the winner.

THE CHICKEN – American cheese, mayonnaise, lettuce and red onions and topped with our peri peri glaze in hot, mild or BBQ

Oh, and the humble chicken burger though was well made with sufficient sauce.

Shepherd’s Bush Branch

The Amigos in Shepherds Bush have a larger menu.

The Boss – 12oz Burger with beef rashers and monterey jack cheese, fried onion rings, fried egg and pickle.

Tasty as this looked, it was let down by the meat.

The one factor we go to eat burgers.

Unfortunately this was rubber, well done to another level and tasteless.

The rest was well constructed and the flavours went well together. The egg was well done which is a shame.

The burger has room for improvement if they send a bit more care on cooking it properly.

The Chicken (Double Pattie) – American cheese, lettuce, red onion, with BBQ and peri peri sauce.

We opted for a double patty which is a added extra.

A flavoursome burger which lacked the bbq and chargrilled taste you expect from a flame grilled burger.

The taste was no different from a fast food burger which isn’t a bad thing but defiantly not in the gourmet category but does come with a gourmet price tag.

Summary
If anything, the beef burgers were well done. Thus, it might be an idea to request they be done medium well perhaps.

You might also consider requesting a custom made burger. Maybe an EL GUAPO with sticky BBQ sauce and soft cheese or something!

In all, the quality of the beef was pretty pore but it made up for it with all the quality condiments. This is one of the better burger places out there though still has some room for improvement. Unfortunately, it has limited seating so you might be crammed for space.

It also took 25mins for them to prepare the four burgers! And had we not checked our take away bag before leaving, we would have left with two burgers and two fries (although they were very kind enough to throw in an extra two portions of fries as an apology).

  • I think I’ll have to hit this place up. It’d looks like a true American burger.
