Hearty Halal Breakfasts in West London

It’s not for nothing that breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day, even more so, of course, when it’s Halal and healthy.

This meal ends the overnight fasting period and replenishes the supply of glucose, as well as other important nutrients, to keep our energy levels up right throughout the day.

So to help you kickstart yours, here’s a comprehensive list of restaurants and cafes across West London that offer good Halal breakfasts.

Makan Cafe

Makan Cafe is a Malaysian eatery that does a variety of all-day traditional and non-traditional breakfasts.

Not only will you be able to order a full English breakfast of sausages, bacon, hash browns, beans and toast for just £5.40…

… but also the following traditional Malay breakfasts:

  • Murtabak – Stuffed pan fried bread with a minced meat filling. Also served with a side of Dahl and red onion
  • Nasi Lemak – A traditional Malaysian breakfast with fragrant rice cooked with coconut milk served with chicken rendang, cucumbers, anchovies, roasted peanuts, boiled egg, and sambal ikan bilis (anchovies in chili a chili paste)
  • Roti Canai – Two pieces of soft and fluffy flat bread served with a portion of dhal

Caffé Concerto
HALAL STATUS Pork on the menu, but vegetarian options cooked separately on request.

Scrambled Eggs Spinach Asparagus

Aside from their full English Breakfast, Caffe Concerto in Kensington is fully Halal, and instead offer a vegetarian breakfast consisting of: two fried eggs, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans, baby potatoes, grilled tomatoes and toast, all of which can be cooked separately upon request to ensure zero cross-contamination with the pork on the menu.

In addition, they do a variety of scrambled eggs and omeletts, an Eggs Florentine with poached eggs on a toasted muffin, hollandaise sauce with asparagus, spinach and smoked salmon, Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, as well as poached eggs on a toasted muffin with hollandaise sauce.

Chantal
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal

Full English Breakfast and Drink £5.95, Omelette +£1.00, Hash Brown +£0.50.

Don’t let Chantal’s discreet location situated at the backend of Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre dissuade you from giving this place a visit.

Having been reviewed by FtL, they do a fantastic all-day breakfast.

And value for money too at £5.95.

Turkey rashers, hash browns, brown sauce, well done eggs minus any watery runny bits, good size portion – what more could you ask for in an authentic English breaki?

Creperie Cila

Full English Breakfast, £5.00

Creperie Cila on funky Northfield Avenue in Ealing is a fully Halal Algerian French cafe offers an extensive menu, but specialises in pancakes and breakfasts.

Drunch
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal

Drunchis a fully Halal restaurant that offers an impressive array of breakfasts that includes:

  • Drunch Alternative English  – Scrambled or fried eggs with all the trimmings, £12
  • Scrambled Eggs & Smoked Salmon  – On a bed of muffins with crème fresh and red onion on the side, £9
  • Le French Toast – An absolute triumph of cinnamon and honey, £9
Lahori Masala

Lahori Masala in Wembley offers traditional Pakistani breakfasts, which is usually served on Friday and during the weekends from 7am to 11am. On offer are:

Café Zee

This cafe in Ealing Broadway used to do full English, but have stream lined their breakfast in recent times.

They now offer:

  • Eggs Royale £8.95 – Poached eggs served over smoked salmon, Hollandaise sauce and toasted multigrain brown
  • Eggs Benedicts £7.95 – Poached eggs served over turkey bacon, Hollandaise sauce and toasted multigrain brown
  • Eggs Flourentine £7.95 – Poached eggs served over spinach, Hollandaise sauce and toasted multigrain brown

All of which isn’t on the online menu, and is available weekdays from 7:30–11am, on Saturday from 7:30–1pm, and on Sunday from 9:00–1pm.

Sikulo Cafe
HALAL STATUS Pork cooked separately. Sources Halal meat from local butchers.

This Italian cafe, delicatessen and restaurant offers a range of breakfasts.

Although it has pork on the menu, the owner not only sources Halal meat from the local butchers, but makes certain that the pork is cooked separately with no risk of cross contamination.

  • Full Breakfast- Your choise of free range eggs with grilled smoky pancetta, sausage, sauteed mushrooms, tomato, and grilled bread. Coffee or tea and a fresh juice, £9.95
  • Egg Florentine – Grilled bread, free range poached eggs, spinach, roast tomato and hollandaise sauce, £5.70
  • Egg Bikulo – Poached eggs on a juicy and tasty peas sauteed onion with Parmesan cheese served with grilled bread, £5.90
  • Frittata – 2 eggs homelette with mushrooms and cheese, served with salad, £5.90
Cafe 786
HALAL STATUS Fully Halal.

This fully Halal cafe in Pitshanger offers a number of set breakfasts including their most expensive for £6.50 which includes: 2 eggs, beef/ sausage or vegetable burgers, mushrooms, baked beans, 2 toasts, tomato and tea/ coffee/ hash browns.

Hanwell Cafe
HALAL STATUS Pork on menu. Owner will cook Halal meat separately on request.

Hanwell Cafe is a small joint located just off Greenford Avenue.

Although Muslim-owned and -run, they do serve pork.

However, the owner has confirmed with FtL that all Halal meat can be cooked separately upon request.

 

Makan Café's Story...

Mr Makan with Masterchef judge John Torode

Makan Café was taken over in 2000 by Azhar Kamarudin who’s transformed this Malaysian food hub into the go-to place in the Portobello area.

Serving up a whole host of Malaysian specialities in a relaxed and informal café style surrounding, it is a great pit stop if you’re visiting Portobello Market on the weekend.

You can either choose from a selection of Halal vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes or opt for their ala carte (order by selected menu). They’ve also introduced an all-day Halal English Breakfast Menu.

Their signature dishes include Nasi Lemak, the Chef’s Recommendation: Char Kuey Tiaw, and one that’s loved by kids and adults alike: Banana Buttons.

Not only was Makan Café featured on Masterchef judge John Torode’s travel documentary John Torode’s Malaysian Adventure, but was also nominated for Timeout’s Love London Award last year.

In 2014, the Café achieved a Healthier Catering Commitment for London certificate from the Royal Borough Kensington & Chelsea for playing its part in promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Makan Cafe also does catering having done so places such as the Royal Brunei Embassy and the Malaysia Truly Asia Night.

  • I’ve been to cafe concerta in Kensington. The food was good but I have to say the last time I went there I saw cockroaches on the table. Definitely would not go back after that.
